Report: Dredgers-Laugharne Final Club Championship
By TMX Archives on 28th Oct 15
The final round of the Dredgers-Laugharne Club Championship was held at the hillside location of Cwmduad, near Carmarthen.
The fast-flowing track had been prepared to a good standard and weather conditions were near perfect on the day.
There was some good racing in the Solo Expert class with John Magilton, Josh Phillips and Matthew Garratt each having a moto win, Magilton taking the overall by two points.
Phillips got excited and went down hard in the second bend of the third moto and when the race was restarted he did it again on the same bend first lap of the re-run.
Fortunately, he was unscathed and finished the race third overall.
In the Solo B class Shaun Willingham – up from the Big-wheels – was the man to catch, blasting his KTM 85SX among a field of adults.
Shaun's corner speed was outstanding and earnt him his first overall ahead of Justin Williams, making a return to racing on his brand-new KXF250. Williams won the third moto and almost won the first, but he got a bit carried away with premature victory celebrations, not realising there was still a lap to go. Kyle Noble had a good second place in the second moto.
In the Solo Novices, cousins Mathew and Corey Roberts were at it again, taking first and second overall.
Joe Cook and Emyr Davies rode well just behind them.
In the Big-wheels Callum Watson on his new Ohlins equipped Husky was flying, with Tom Hughes and Tyler Thomas chasing hard, while in the Small-wheels Rocky Piggott had two great wins, with Joe Brown and Sam Richards hard on his tail.
Battle
The Expert Quad group was a family affair with the Hammersley leading the way.
Dad Phil proved he still has what it takes to finish sixth overall with brothers Simon and David battling it out for first and second.
Simon was again the fastest man at the meeting on four wheels or two.
In the B Quads, Michael Philp nailed a brilliant first overall ahead of Justin James and Ben Golding.
Finally, in the 250 Youth Quads, Daniel Jones was the boy to catch, with Iestyn Rees and Jack Jones chasing all the way.
