Club Reports

East Anglia SSC staged round two of the Pro Green Winter Championship at Mepal and luck was on the clubs side as the rain stayed away.

First in action on the seriously demanding circuit were the Autos and Shaun Mahoney took wins from three starts to maintain his championship lead.

Kalvin Kelly pushed hard and claimed victory in race two. Brandon Buckley tried his best but was just a bit off pace and finished third.

Wal Beaney worked hard to keep his lead and after a fourth in race one  knew he had to up his game. He did just that, taking both the remaining race wins.

Archie Montgomery and Larry Harper battled it out for second and third with just one point separating them at the end.

Bobby Bruce picked up second overall in the Small-wheel 85ccs at the previous round and it was all to play for. He posted a 1-1-2 card on Sunday, which was enough to put him top of the leader-board.

Ben Clark finished second in class with a 2-2-1 scorecard and Callum Murfitt battled hard to finish just one point behind.

Next up was the Big-wheel 85cc class and there was some great riding although the big ruts caught many out. Declan Hunter posted a 1-2-2 day for the overall with the previous round winner Josh Petersfollowing him home.

Only six points separates them at the top of the table going into the last round. Sam Price rode well with some great results for third spot.

Some fast Open class riders turned out but Liam Knight was on another level and checked out on his 350 KTM and made it look easy on his way to a maximum points haul, chased hard by Luke Gidney. However, a bad crash in race three dropped Gidney out of the top six overall.

Reece Desoer and Ben Talbot finished second and third respectively.

Daniel Askew scored maximum points in the Veteran class and a DNF in race three for Mark Housen – who had been heading the points table – dropped him down the leaderboard giving Askew the overall.

Two points separated James Holt and Paul Austin for second.

The AMX were next up and a nasty braking bump caused series leader Robert Yates to fly over the bars in race two, winding himself quite badly. After catching his breath and re-mounting, Yates pushed hard to get back up to fifth, which helped him secure second overall.

A tumble by Yates in race two gave Lee Foyle space to take the win in race two and also the overall on the day. Dean Smith followed them in.

With the rough sand catching many riders out many of the fromt runners in the Senior were on the floor at some point. Todd Ritchie led the way ahead of Matt Maxted and George Turner.
