Ben stays Sharp'e

CHEADLE (Staffs) Auto Club ran the latest round of the ACU Youth A and B trials championship at their popular Sharpcliffe venue on Sunday. After last year's event, ran in torrential bitterly cold rain, this year's riders were treated to pleasantly warm sunshine and a dry trial which was appreciated by everyone, especially the unsung heroes, the observers. Cheadle got the observing scores just about dead on especially so when Jon Richardson popped a clean third lap.
Jonathan Richardson took a narrow lead on the opening lap for the A Class, dropping only three marks on the steep rocks of section eleven with Ben Morphett and Joshua Sprintall only just behind having both dropped similar threes but also had single daps to finish on four each.
Jack Thompson's second lap of two dabs proved to be one of the best of the day but was not good enough to give him the lead as Morphett again went round for four with section eleven again proving his Nemesis. Richardson had fives on the difficult rocky sections at ten and 11 which cost him the eventual victory.
On the final circuit, Richardson recorded the only clear lap of the day but this was still not enough to take him into the lead as Morphett rode consistently, recording three, a single dab on the steep climb on section four and a two again on eleven. This was typical Morphett country and, just as he did at Bracken Rocks, 15-year-old Morphett never faltered.
The final victory went to Morphett on 11 with Richardson and the ever consistant Jonny Walker next both on 14, with Richardson getting the runner-up spot by virtue of most cleans.
