British Youth C&D and A&B Trials Championships C&D
JACK Price, Jack Peace and Joe Faunthorpe ruled at Bracken Rocks on Saturday where Mansfield Maun ran the third round of the ACU Class C and D Trials Championship.
Bracken Rocks was in fine fettle on Saturday and a complete contrast to the A and B second round in March when mud was the name of the game.
Terry Crabtree and his band of helpers had worked hard to provide a balanced course which did feature the speciality of Bracken Rocks rocks. It was to the point of being dusty in the woods where 12 sections were plotted on the lower slopes of the course where the sections were more or less on the tight side so selecting lines was vital.
Twenty-three C Class and a dozen Class D fired up for three laps. The Class C boys, and girls headed for section one which darted up the exposed quarry face.
The only real testing part was the left flick up and over a large rock which caught Hannah Richardson and Sam Johnson. The section was dry so the marks were in single figures. Billy Bolt and Jack Price were level until the sixth, but only Tom Minta and Liam Owens arrived at it clean. Dan Peace nailed the four foot step on lap three, but the best rides came from Billy Bolt and Dan Peace on lap one.
After the first two laps Billy Bolt was on eight, Price on eight and Peace out of it after toppling over on the roots and rocks at the fifth. Billy lost the plot when he failed the same section on lap three while Peace let the fire go out on the Beta in the penultimate section after he had taken a dab for balance.
Billy stuck fast on two dabs on his last lap, but that five killed his hopes. Thomas Minta, Liam Owens and Matt Whelan could not stay with the top trio but they did pick up a bag full of championship points.
In Class D Medium-wheels Jack Peace upped his game by riding in East Yorks Centre trials every weekend. A 2-4-6 set of laps just shaded Toby Martyn who finished 72 marks ahead of Kade Edwards.
The boys started their day at the seventh where the route round a huge rock was a mix of small rocks and grass. The area was virtually impossible for Class A in March but Joe Faunthorpe and Zac Collinson cleaned it on lap one.
The top three Medium-wheels cleaned with very little effort but the next section was a different story. The climbing loop featured some tight turns and those turns defied half the entire Class D field. Peace and Collinson were the best with a single dab.
At the end of the lap, for Class D, Peace was on two, Martyn up to seven while Faunthorpe ahead of Teasdale and Collinson. Jack Peace never faltered in his ride to win Medium-wheels but Faunthorpe had a shaky middle lap when Collinson came good. Joe buckled down after that with a ten for the last lap while Zac took 13 to finish exactly ten marks down on Faunthorpe.

A&B
JACK Sheppard flattened Bracken Rocks on Sunday winning his fourth successive Class A British Youth Championship trial.
The result puts the 15-year-old on a maximum 80 championship points, 12 ahead of main challenger Richard Sadler. Jack focussed and listened to his father Mark calling the moves and timing, riding an amazing trial that was testing, tricky, and latterly very slippery.
Sheppard really upped the anti completing three 12 section laps for a mere 16 marks, 31 marks ahead of Richard and 44 ahead third placed John Maude.
The hard sections were six, seven, eight and nine, all at the top of the woodland. Karen Crabtree observed the sixth, and the long walk that it entailed to get to the top bordering wall of the estate.
Josh Brain nailed the big step on lap one then Sheppard and Sadler arrived to make it three and there it stayed until Jake Evans-Luter stormed up to make it
just four cleans on lap one.
Shep was near on lap two with a dab the same as Sadler then up came Joanne Coles, and at the same time Chris Short, to post the only cleans on lap two. Joanne did her usual ride with enough time to pause and listen to her minder.
A four-foot rock blocked any easy rider tactics at the seventh where Sheppard found the grip and drive. Sadler and Brain screamed their machines and Josh really did give the Gas Gas peak revs. The end product was a good strong dab.
Sheppard was running clean until the eighth section. The approach was awkward with a small but angled wheel trapping gap then a tight left flick to line up for some angled hardware then right and up to more angled
slots, all wheel trapping width.
Only Chris Short got the section somewhere near right with a strong dab to clear the last hard part. Sadler hung in for two dabs, one at the bottom and the other where Short took his mark. Sheppard did not get his line just right, and he paid for any errors.
On the ninth section there was a huge boulder which was the stopper and the next rock was a leaning post for some. The elbow high rock was on the right hand side in the final three metres and Mrs Alford watched for leaning dabs and awarded marks accordingly.
Josh Maude and Sadler were the best on this section while Sheppard took his lap score to just five.
On lap two the same four sections extracted another five marks from the winner and virtually the same on the final lap with a slack dab on the penultimate section.
With Sheppard winning Bracken for the second time this year it must have rubbed off on Isle of Wight Class B contender George Gosden because he matched his travelling companion Chris Stay who won in March in the heavy mud.
A taller George rode to victory over Tom Dexter and local ace Luke Walker. Luke would have been on the case but the Class B route at the eighth was hard and it got him for a maximum on lap one.
Dexter, Walker, Jack Welch and Jack Howell all cleaned the first section on their first full lap. Gosden came near to cleaning that tough eighth section but Dexter lost drive and fived, and that five, with Walker's
opening lap failure in the same section, gave Gosden his chance and he took it. His second lap score of seven with a 16 from Walker and a 15 for Dexter closed the door.
