STEVEN Clarke scored a dramatic podium finish in the SX2 class of the second round of the Australian SX series at Canberra last Saturday.
The 20-year-old from the West Midlands, who is contesting the series for the Raceline Pirelli Suzuki team, improved his results as the evening progressed, indeed he almost won the final moto as leader Matt Moss narrowly avoided tangling with a back-marker on the final lap.
The programme for the second round of the series was three seven-lap sprints, and overnight rain left the track rideable but demanding, ready to punish the slightest mistake.
Moss avoided the dangers best in SX2 to take over the series lead from American PJ Larsen, while, in the absence of Chad Reed, Americans dominated the podium in the big class. Kevin Windham cleaned up ahead of Josh Hansen and Justin Brayton.
