Colmore cracker
By TMX Archives on 5th Mar 09

SUNDAY is Colmore Cup time and with a full entry of 120, the oldest National trial in the calender has all the makings of a Cotswold cracker, writes Alan Wright. Groups of sections on the one-lap, 25-mile route, are all the old favourites, used since time immemorial, like Weston Wood, Fish, Saintbury and Camp plus the massive climbs of Dovedale.
The Colmore represents the second round of the 2009 Novogar Clubman National Championship and with the new format for the series that has half of the 40 sections offering an alternative, easier route, there's a level of expertise for everyone to tackle.
First round winner, Chris Pearson, is the clear championship favourite whilst the non-championship route has attracted a load of local Clubmen for the first time in many years. Mick Chapman, Carl Blakeley and John Langston are but three.
Lowest score of the day is likely to come from one of six riders, last year's winner Dan Thorpe, who goes for his third success, Shaun Morris, Sam Connor, James Fry, Alexz Wigg or Sam Haslam. One mistake will be the difference between winning and a top six placing!
Bridges and Weston Wood will each have a testing teaser, but the day won't be at all about tight turns but a lot more about climbs and cambers!
The start is at 9am from Minetts Farm, just half a mile from the opening group, Dovedale, to which spectators are welcome, but please park cars on the road outside of the gate to the woods before the half-mile walk down to some of the best sections in the Midlands.
T+MX will of course have a full report with pics and 2009 Novogar Championship points to date in next week's issue!
