Colunists

The only fifth gear trials section in the world is included in this Sundays Stratford on Avon Clubs 101st Colmore Cup, the event that represents the second round of the popular ACU S3 Parts National Clubman Championship, writes Alan Wright.

The mighty Meon Hill, near the end of the 30 mile route, is the venue for spectacular flat-out attempts to scale the monster bank that climbs and  rises to dominate the surrounding Warwickshire countryside around the picturesque village of Mickelton. It's a mighty hillside that dwarfs the many climbs, root sections and cambers in the 40 section Colmore route that looks like being one of the driest on record.

New clerk of the course, John Braithwaite takes over the reins from Alan Wright after 35 years at the helm but rest assured Wrighty's influence wont be very far away in a 10 group amble that includes three new crackers, Micketon Wood, Blackwell and the finale for the town of Shipston on Stour, at Fosseway Hire. The first mentioned was last used in 1949- the second in 1978 and Fosseway is a new group just 100yards from the finish to give a taste of trials to the townspeople over a part natural - part man made section .

All the old Colmore favourites are still included like opening group Dovedale, Fish Hill, Weston Wood and Saintbury. Non-stop observing is the order of the day so queuing will be minimal for the full house 120 strong entry that includes last year's winner Ross Danby, and previous winners Dan Thorpe, Sam Haslam and Sam Connor. Or will Alexz Wigg run the Show?

Start time is 9am. Venue is the Sheldon Bosley Hall in the middle of Shipston on Stour where refreshments and a bar will be open at the finish. Spectators are recommended to visit Dovedale , Fish ,Weston Wood and Meon Hill for another  spectacular day in the picturesque Cotswolds .
