THE 2008 ACU Novogar British Clubman Trials Championship, always a popular series containing many excellent traditional trials and this year taking in nine events, gets under way this Sunday with the North Berks MCC run Wallace Cup Trial. This event, with the enthusiastic Stuart Robinson in charge of the route and sections, has built-up a well-deserved following in recent years and this year is no exception with no fewer than 101 hopefuls lining-up at the start which, as usual, will be The Horse and Harrow, West Hagbourne, Didcot.
Who knows who the winner of the opening round will be as the Novogar is sure to throw up some surprises but Ross Danby, John Crinson (pictured) , James Fry, Matt Jones, Colin Crease and Gary Jenkins looks good to start with.
And there's a good turnout of girls who will be looking to mix it with the lads and Katy Sunter, Becky Cook, Maria Conway and Emma Bristow are all excellent riders who can hold their own in any company.
There's a good line-up of non-Novogar Experts as well who will be looking to put on a display for the crowds including British Champ Graham Jarvis, Sam Haslam, Michael Phillipson, Dan Thorpe, Liam Walker and Lee Sampson. They will be riding the Novogar sections so expect some pretty low scores!
The trial follows the traditional format with one long road-based lap taking in a dozen groups of sections. This of course includes the spectator favourite at Seymours Arena where Stuey has worked his magic once again. He has tweaked many of the sections in the trial and come up with a couple of new ones, just to keep all riders on their toes. It is hoped that the recent frozen weather will have thawed by Sunday to offer perfect conditions!
The trial will represent a good day out whether riding or watching and if you are in the area it is well worth making the effort for. Start time is a nippy 9.30am.
