Disappointment for Ray

After sustaining a back injury at the Hawkstone International back in March, Ray Rowson spent two-nights in hospital before being released after being told he had compressed and bruised vertebrea in his back and neck.

However, as there had been conflicting diagnosis from various doctors at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital during his two-night stay, he decided to see the consultant he saw when he injured his back at the same event which ironically took place almost in the same spot on the track at the International.

Having had a CT scan and X-rays at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Ray was given an MRI scan at the Gabowen Hospital followed by an appointment with Mr Trevedi, the specialist who backed up the diagnosis of the compressed vertebrea.

Ray was advised to have two weeks off his bike, then so long as he wasn't in pain, he could resume training etc.

He followed the directions but arranged a further appointment to see Mr Trevedi when he found riding and training very uncomfortable as he was getting pins and needles and a lot of discomfort.

Last Friday, he was informed that they had mistakenly been looking at his old injury and that Ray had in-fact broken his T7 vertebra, next to the T6 that he broke in 2008.

So he had been riding in that state since March 2010!

He now has to have another CT scan which will be either this week or next, before he knows what damage may have been caused and what treatment he will required.

Obviously, Ray is devastated by the news as it is another season ruined for him. Had the injury been diagnosed in March, Ray would be getting back to training and riding now as he was only off for three months the last time he broke bones in his back.
