Double trouble for Normandale
By TMX Archives on 14th Mar 11
The guys (and gals) chasing the Normandale sponsored ACU Traditional Trials Championship points have a rare weekend of sport this coming Saturday and Sunday, with the double header of rounds two and three which are to be held in the north west of England.
Lancs County kick-off the weekend with the Angela Redford Trial at Brookhouse Brickworks starting from the wind farm high above Lancaster. Those who have never been to this venue previously may well arrive there and think that the land won't handle a trial, let alone a major national, but get down into those woods and gullies and they'll soon see that there's more than enough to test them, and it's a challenging ride round.
The trial will be held over two laps of 22 sections and Lancs County have attracted their biggest ever entry of 175 riders, all competitors in the six classes, with no guest riders to bulk up the entry.
And there's some ace riders taking part. Dan Thorpe with partner Katy Sunter are bringing out a pair of TY Yamaha Monos, last year's winner Richard Allen returns but this time with an air-cooled Beta. Add in the likes of David Pye, Roger Williams, Mark Hicken, Anthony Brockbank, Mark Reason, Barry Roads, Mick Grant, Allen Collier, Nick Shield, Neil and Peter Gaunt and of course many others and you'll get a flavour of the class of entry taking part.
Riders have entered from all over the country from as far east as Essex, from as far south as Sussex, from as far west as Hayle in Cornwall as well as from Wales and Scotland.
Many will then be making the short journey over to Fell Green, Bootle, in Cumbria for Sunday's third round of this series where the Bootle club have attracted around 140 entries for their offering. Their course will again be all off-road (as is Lancs County's) with two laps of 20 sections planned using the rocky becks and granite rocks found at this Cumbrian outpost. Riders are treated to a cracking moorland outing.
For those interested in this series, which caters for Pre-75 British Bikes, Air-cooled monoshocks, Twin-shocks and Veterans on modern machines, this is a great chance to see some cracking action at either of these two venues where parking is plentiful and where catering will be on site.
