ENTRIES are open for the 2009 Weston Beach Race, which will take place on the weekend of October 10/11 and the event promises to be bigger and better than ever.Event regulations, and the all-important entry form, can be downloaded from the official event website at www.wbruk.com. Competitors who enter the Adult Solo race or Quad race before April 30 can take advantage of a massive 25% discount on the full entry price. There are also savings to be made in all of the Junior classes, so make sure you benefit by entering early! Further improvements to the course layout, together with plenty of new off-track activities, means that this year's Beach Race, which will be the 27th running of this unique event, promises to be a real extravaganza.
The race itself is a battle of the maddest and baddest riders, who compete over a 3.5-mile course made up of a mile long straight, together with mammoth sand dunes that are larger than the average house. The thrill of seeing 1,000 racers thundering down the shoreline at once is second-to-none for the 100,000 people who venture down to see the race, and this year's event will certainly be no exception.
RHL Activities is always looking to improve the event and as the organiser of the race for the eighth consecutive year, the company is creating new ways to make the experience even better value for competitors and spectators alike. As well as the spectacle of the beach race itself, the weekend will also feature an array of displays, trade stands and activities to keep everyone entertained throughout the event.
Said Director of RHL Activities, Gareth Hockey: We've been running this event for many years now, and we're always looking at ways to make it better than before.
We've learnt many lessons over the years, and in 2009 we want to take the Weston Beach Race to the next level. We've been looking at ways we can improve the course layout with our track builder, Justin Barclay, and we'll be adding lots of new things to improve the off-track experience for spectators.
I can't say too much at the moment, as we're still in the planning stages, but we're looking to give the whole weekend even more of a festival atmosphere with the addition of live entertainment on the Saturday night.
Like I said, I can't give too much away just now, but I can promise you that it will add a whole new element to the Weston Beach Race, so watch this space, concluded Hockey.
