SIDECAR Sunday was once again held at Binstead, near Alton, on Sunday, and it was open to anyone who wanted to ride sidecar. There were fun races for regular teams with added difficulties like a Le Mans start, collecting shopping on the way round, a Swap' race where the passenger drove, a passenger-less race and a practice session for any one who fancied a try at sidecar-cross.

The track conditions were wet for most of the day which was a great shame as it made track conditions difficult for the Novice riders, but there was still plenty of fun had by everyone.

The day started with the Expert shopping race withLe Mans start, but with the general pushing and shoving the day startedwith more effort in trying to put off the competition thanwinning the race.

Rob Topp and Mike Geraghty were first away, butRoger Blackman and Steve Baughan fought through to take the win andcollect the most shopping points. Collecting shopping really distractedfrom the racing, and most either lost their shopping over the jumps orthrew the shopping at each other, with the crowd and ambulance teamjoining in, pelting the teams with eggs and water bombs.

In the Juniors, Alfie Hyde and Colin Dunkley wonthe race but forgot the shopping so Brian Chandler and Dan Webb tookthe overall win with a great shopping effort.

The swap race provided the most entertainment withthe weather having turned into a monsoon and passengers having a turnat driving.

Suddenly they were the ones in control, or not insome cases, and there were lots of smiling faces as they realized justhow difficult it is to control a sidecar in the mud.

In the Expert race Rob Wilkinson's solo racing son drove him to victory, with the Junior class dominated by Mark Kinge.

The final fun race saw drivers take to the trackon their own, with no passengers. They found the tight turns difficult, but otherwise they didn't miss the passenger too much, and the Expertrace was just as fast with the drivers skill on show. Rob Oldfield tookand early lead and hung on to take a great win.
