Olly Stone: It’s all in a day’s work
By Olly Stone on 7th Apr 16
So things have been slowly getting better as results go. And I emphasise the word slowly.
Our trip to Toronto could have been a lot better but Tyler Bowers crashed a couple of times in the Main Event so that robbed us of salvaging some championship hopes.
That's kind of way out of reach now. So he just needs to get his act together and get some wins for pride.
I was glad to get out of Canada after such a disappointing night and no thanks to Air Canada who lost my bag on the way home.
I was happy to get back to American soil!
The following weekend things started turning around.
A heat race win in Detroit helped our case but a first turn crash with Jeremy Martin put paid to a podium finish.
But Tyler came back from last to fourth by the flag so that was proof his speed and endurance is coming back.
We had a couple weeks off from racing so that gave us a chance to work on some laps at the test track.
It turns out I am now a riding coach as well.
Planning out at the beginning of the week what laps Tyler should ride and what intensity was great.
So I started him off with three lots of 20 laps.
I guess I'm a hard worker and I actually want to win a race before the end of the supercross season.
While I was in Detroit it was the last amateur national for Austin Forkner.
From all accounts he killed it there and came from a first turn crash to win twice.
So he is more than ready to turn pro. My week leading up to Easter consisted of building him two ProCircuit team bikes to ship to his house so he can start riding.
It took a few days to get those bikes ready and a spare motor and a ton of parts to keep him going.
Austin rides a lot during the week so he will go though plenty of parts and probably time out a motor every 10 days or so.
So right now I'm still working double duty.
It's hard going with some long days working for two guys.
But with only five races left for the Supercross I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
And with Austin staying at home until the Vegas Supercross I should be okay with the workload at the shop.
Have a good month guys...
