FORMER double National BSMA Youth Champion, Rob Barney has been working his socks off over the winter months training out of his Belgian base at Tongeren, all in an effort to be fully up to speed for the start of the Belgian BMB Motocross series. The plan all came to an untimely halt, however, last Wednesday when a practice track accident left Rob with a punctured lung, a number of cracked ribs, damage to his liver and an urgent appointment in a local Belgian hospital after he parted company with his 450 KTM.
Hopefully, Rob will be back in action for the start of the series, which commences in April, as he and his Belgian stable-mate, Kristof Loverix, with the backing of Dutch outfit, Dam Racing, and Lovebar MX have an interesting year of competition already scheduled.
Along with the Belgian Intermediate series – one-step down from the Belgian Championship – the two riders are planning to go Channel hopping on a regular basis to also contest the MCF Red Bull Pro series in the UK along with other selected British events.
Kristof made a flying visit last weekend when he raced at Wilden Lane and almost ran off with first place in an impressive show.
Both guys would like to say a big thanks to Rob and Lianne Eadle and the Loverix family for all the help and hospitality they've offered as the two riders repeatedly travel to and fro across the Channel this year.
