Essex motocross star, Ryan Houghton, had a sizzling ride at the final round of the European EMX125 (two-stroke) series, staged as a support race to the final GP at Fermo, Italy, on Sunday.
Houghton – the only Brit to travel to the Adriatic Coast to contest the class – struggled in qualifying with bike problems, but scorched his HM Plant KTM from 25th to tenth in moto one on Saturday.
Come Sunday morning with temperatures reaching 39-degrees, Ryan was fired up for more big points and flew round the outside of turn one to place 11th at the end of lap one.
He drove forwards much like the first race and at the end of the 25-min plus two-lap moto, had battled his way up to sixth for a terrific sixth overall.
Houghton ends the series 12th overall,
after missing the first two rounds, and the absent James Dunn sacrificed his medal chances to end up sixth.
Suzuki's Simone Zecchina was crowned Champion, ahead of Fermo double moto-winner, Tim Gajser.
