With the '07 World Enduro Championship having reached the halfway point, it is clear that one rider is comfortably heading towards a record-equalling seventh enduro world championship - Finn Juha Salminen.
As the series heads to the States and Canada the recent GP of Italy marked the halfway point of the series where Salminen continued his perfect season claiming his eight day win from eight starts in this year's championship. If the reigning US GNCC champion can continue his stunning results a seventh WEC crown will be his well before the end of the season.
''I never like to look at the championship too closely,'' commented the Finn after the Italian GP, ''but things have gone really well for me so far this season. One thing that has helped me is the fact that no one has consistently finished second in all the races.''
Already 60 points ahead in the Enduro 1 world championship standings, Salminen's closest class rival is Italian Simone Albergoni. But due to disappointing results at the opening round of the series and mixed results since, the rider many expected to push Salminen for the E1 championship looks destined for another runner-up spot.
Currently holding third in the E1 class in his first year in the category is Spain's Cristobal Guerrero. With impressive results having seen him finish as high as second on two occasions this year already, Guerrero is just one of four riders, along with Albergoni, Alessandro Belometti, Marc Germain and Bartosz Oblucki, who are separated by just a handful of points.
