Stars head for the Mitchell

THE ACU East South Wales Centre will stage Round 3 of the 2008 Colin Appleyard British Motorcycle Trials Championship with their long-standing Mitchell Trophy Trial which will be staged at Morlais Quarry, Merthyr Tydfil, on Sunday.
Officials of the Merthyr Motor Club will hold key positions in the running of the trial: Mr Dai Bedford is Chief Clerk of Course with his Assistant Martin Price while Mrs Kay Bedford is the secretary of the meeting. The organising team will lay out the three- lap, 12-section course for which a total time allowance of five and a half hours is set for all riders to complete the event.
Mr Bedford and Mr Price have been digging and recovered some of the sections which were used in the British round of the1990 FIM World Championship trial. These sections should definitely test the Champion-ship contenders. Twenty-year-old Scarborough electrician, and World Junior Cup champion, Michael Brown, heads the standings after winning the opening two rounds in Scotland (Kinlochleven) and South Wales at the recent St David's trial. Reigning British champion Graham Jarvis, the vet of the series at 33, aims to get his championship quest back on track in the Welsh hills on Sunday. There's only nine Champ-ionship riders entered but it is
definitely quality not quantity with the likes of Shaun Morris and Alexz Wigg.
In the Experts, 17 year-old Halifax, Yorks, contender Jack Challoner shares the leading Expert standings with Lynton, Devon, graphics designer and reigning champ Joe Baker. Both lads have scored a win and a second place in the first two events and the battle will be well and truly
re-joined.
Practice will take place on Saturday at 3pm until 5pm while the Mitchell Trophy trial will start at 10am on Sunday morning.
Championship standings are: 1 Michael Brown (Beta) 40, 2 Graham Jarvis (Sherco) 30, 3 Shaun Morris (Gas Gas) 30.
Expert Standings: 1 Joe Baker (Scorpa) 37, 1 Jack Challoner (Beta) 37, 3 Ben Hemingway (Beta) 28.
