TMX Says: It’s going to be wet, wet, wet!
By TMX Archives on 15th Jun 16
Cagoule is a word that Ive not really thought about in a very long time but after checking the weather forecast ahead of this weekends British MX GP at Matterley Basin it popped right on into the old Sutton noggin.
And the way things are looking not only am I going to have to think about finding such a thing but I'll probably end up wearing the bugger n'all!
For MX fans who can remember as far back as 2006 and the MXoN in particular you'll already know that a little rain does Matterley Basin no harm at all.
If anything, it actually makes the track a little bit better as it gets rutty and opens up a plethora of racing lines.
So as things stand I'm fully embracing some wet stuff falling from the sky.
Hopefully, that statement won't bite me on the ass!
Regardless of the weather this weekend's racing action should be fairly interesting as the battle between Tim Gajser and Romain Febvre is heating up nicely at the front of the MXGP pack.
But if either of the young guns wants to top the podium at the British round of the series then they'll have to overcome Matterley Basin's winningest ever rider – that's Tony Cairoli!
The Sicilian has won no fewer than eight motos around Matterley in the seven big events that the track has hosted so far – that's the 2006 MXoN and '06, '11, '12, '13, '14 and '15 GPs.
I know the Basin is also home to the Hampshire Motocross Club's annual Leukaemia Busters event but I don't think Cairoli has ridden in – or at least won at – any of those.
Write in and correct me if I'm wrong... Tony's basically never not won a moto during a visit to Matterley which when you consider the time scale involved is fairly impressive.
The other race winners at the inaugural GP have long since retired but if you know who they are then write in and tell me at – Sutty's Top Secret Competition (don't tell Stuart), TMX Towers, 41 Northgate, White Lund Industrial Estate, Morecambe, LA3 3PA.
I'll put all the correct entries that I get before June 24 into a hat and pick a winner who'll receive something really cool out of the TMX stock cupboard.
MX2 is looking a little less interesting if I'm honest as Herlings seems to be more or less unstoppable.
Obviously Max Anstie is gonna ride out of his skin all weekend long – and keep on nailing the quad no matter how sketchy the landing – but I can't really see him bettering the Dutchman in either race.
I honestly hope that he proves me wrong though... If anything it's the EMX action that's more likely to bring us a British winner – especially the EMX300 class that sees Spanish GP supremo Brad Anderson line up for Bob Buchanan's GL12 Yamaha racing team.
The squad is basically funded from sales generated at Bob's trade stand – the Goggle Shop – so if you wanna help Brad and the gang top the podium once more then please bag yourself a bargain knowing full well that your money is going to fund the team's terrorist activities in the two-smoker series.
Oh, and while you're in the trade area please don't forget to pop by and visit us in the TMX/DBR tent as Hodders and her team of cohorts will be banging out their bargains –
it says bargains – all weekend long.
We'll see you there...
