TMX Says: MX universe on it's head

IT feels like the MX universe was turned on its head at the weekend with East Germany basking in summer sunshine while Las Vegas got drenched by some of the worst storms seen in the area for 73 years or something crazy like that.

Despite the bizarre race conditions in America Ryan Dungey won again, ending another ridiculously successful season on top.

In Germany, meanwhile, Tony Cairoli broke a streak of his own by finally winning a race for the first time since the French GP last May.

He did it in fine style, too, by taking both motos and the overall n'all – obviously. It's kind of hard to imagine the 222 going so long without a win but injuries – and an increased level of competition – will do that.

As things stand the world series is heating up really nicely right now with the battle between reigning MXGP world champ Romain Febvre and current MX2 champ Tim Gajser gaining intensity, while Tony C's now thrown his hat into the ring too which means we're probably looking at a summer-long three-man battle of attrition to find us a worthy world champion. I can't wait!

In trials news Dougie Lampkin added the title of oldest man to ever win the SSDT – to go with the youngest one he collected way back in 1994 – as he romped to his 10th victory in the Highland classic.

Considering the circumstances – many say that he's yet to fully come to terms with the loss of his father – that's really impressive stuff and true testament to the character of the 12-time world champion.

On the subject of golden oldies Brad Anderson stuck it to those meddling kids at the second round of the MX Nationals.

The 35-year-old North Easterner beasted out a 2-1 scorecard at Pontrilas to take the MX1 overall while Martin Barr did the double in MX2 for Dave Thorpe's Buildbase Honda outfit – happy days.

And where was I while all this was going on? In DIY hell is where and through no choice of my own I might add.

Fortunately I'd downloaded the brand-new DBR and TMX news apps onto my own personal iPad and work HTC – which is as clunky an Android device as they ever did build –

which meant I was fully able to keep up to speed with what was going on as it happened.

Available in the Apple App Store and on Google Play for FREE right now (yep I said free aka zero, zilch, nowt, nothing, nada) these news apps are a first-of-their-kind in the English-speaking world and deliver a steady stream of off-road goodness direct to your smart device.

The best bit is that they're nothing like those other magazine and newspaper apps which are basically just substandard digital versions of print products – yawn!

Our apps are actual live news, photo and video feeds so in the case of the TMX one it's almost like having JD, Hodge, Lawless, Jason and Beth living right there in your pocket and providing you with an off-road news fix every so often – only a little bit less cumbersome and way less fragrant.

So if you need #moredirt in your life get browsing today and download both apps straight away to keep your intake of trials, motocross and enduro action topped right up!
