TMX Says: Romaniacs at touch of button

Colunists

I NEVER envisaged Id get chained down to a desk as I always thought my natural habitat was either in a workshop or a field somewhere, preferably a muddy one, surrounded by dirty dirt bikes.

Fortunately as technology has progressed it's become more and more possible to get race information, images, results – heck, sometimes even a live video feed of the action – at your desk, couch, bathroom or wherever you're lucky enough to have a smart device and some good 3 or 4G signal.

When Godfrey J and myself took on the Red Bull Romaniacs 10 years ago our well-wishers back home were lucky if they got a daily update of our exploits.

But on Tuesday morning this week we – that's the TMX Team – were able to see the results of the Prologue Time Trial as they happened. We probably knew that Billy Bolt had absolutely slaughtered the competition long before he did thanks to it all working so well.

The Finals at 5pm are also promised to be shown live and, if the race is anything like previous editions, it will be well worth watching – saves a 1,700 mile drive to Sibiu I suppose.

Me telling you that now is kinda pointless I know but bare it in mind for next year, mmmkay?

By the time this copy of TMX hits the shops the Romaniacs will be deep into its second ‘off-road' day of four which means they'll all be suffering.

It also means there'll be a stack of killer content from the event on our website (www.tmxnews.co.uk) and App (get it from the Apple App Store or Googleplay), plus the event's home on the world wide web – redbullromaniacs.com.

Please check it out...

This weekend sees the World Trial Championship come to the UK – Tong near Bradford to be a little more exact – for two days of action.

The Parkwood Off-Road Centre is no stranger to hosting large off-road events but this is the first time the feet-up boys will have performed on the mix of natural and man-made going.

Dicko's done a full preview for this awesome event and it starts on page 14 so give it a read and then head over to Tong on the weekend – it should really be an amazing event as the UK's leading lads and ladies take on the world's best – stick BD4 0RR in your satnav and have a grand day out in sunny Yorkshire...

Meanwhile, a good bit further south and a fair way to the east, the sixth round of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship goes off at Blaxhall on Sunday.

With both main championship chases heating up nicely the action should come thick n' fast all day.

Local lads Jake Nicholls and Elliott Banks-Browne will be looking to top the MX1 podium ahead of GP regulars Shaun Simpson and Tommy Searle, while the intriguing three-way between Apico Husqvarna's Steven Clarke and Bryan MacKenzie, plus Buildbase Honda's

Martin Barr is sure to liven things up in the MX2.

Wherever you end up this weekend make sure you stay safe, have fun and take your litter home with you afterwards. Catch you next week...
