Cwmythig Hill, the stunning hillside circuit at St Harmon, just outside Rhayader, Mid-Wales, will reverberate to the sound of competition motorcycles THIS Wednesday evening (June 1), when the first round of the PAR Homes/ Baches Bargains-sponsored Welsh Open Motocross Championship fires into life again.
There's a brilliant national-class entry taking part, led by three-times series winner Brad Anderson! Also staring in a fantastic line-up are 2008 series winner, Ray Rowson, on-form Irish ace Martin Barr, top Welsh rider and 2010 series champion Jamie Lewis, who is aiming to field a strong challenge in front of the large crowd at the Cwmythig Hill circuit, plus Kayne Lamont and Alex Snow. Also hoping to make the trip down is CCM factory rider Stephen Sword.
All will be aiming to leave with a major chunk of the large prize fund on offer!
Club members have been busy improving the spectacular track, which includes a downhill ski jump, wall of death berm and the infamous 65-foot finish-line table-top jump.
With practice at 5.45pm and the first race at 6.45pm the club plans a slick 11-race programme – three races per group, Expert, Senior/ Junior and Novice/ Local Beginner, with two Grand Final ‘Dash for Cash' races at the end of the evening, one for the top 125/250F riders and one for the top Open Experts on the night.
The circuit, virtually the whole of which can be seen from any one vantage point also, has a full trackside PA system, to keep the large crowds informed (2,000 spectators turned out for the first round last year).
As well as the races, there will be kids mini quad bike rides, numerous bouncy castles, good catering facilities, a tarmac drive into the circuit with excellent hard parking and permanent toilets – everything, in fact, for the family to enjoy a good night's entertainment.
Entry fee is just £5 for adults while children under 14 free. Cwmythig Hill will be well signposted from Rhayader.
PS: There are still entries available in all classes. An extra £1,000 has been put into the prize fund, adding to the already handsome prize-money available – the top Expert could take home around £700 per night!
