Training for the future
By TMX Archives on 3rd May 13
The past couple of days Ive been down at the team workshop in Devon, washing, preparing and loading the 7.5ton lorry with the bikes and gear ready, for a busy few days at the off-road centre in Wales.
We've got four days out of five booked in next week, which is great for us.
I can see me doing this in the future and also training riders at all levels to improve their riding.
Working with Honda is also something I enjoy and strive to push forward.
Alongside that there is obviously my racing, which so far this year has not been the best to say the least.
Round two of the British Champs at Lyng started with a big crash all of 10 meters off the start in race one.
I locked bars with the guy next to me which caused a four-man pile-up and banged my head hard .
Although I was okay, the bike was damaged a fair bit with a broken silencer, clutch, front wheel and radiator.
I didn't even get around the first turn!
In race two I finished ninth and I had a no-score in race three.
The following week I got out practising on some hardpack ready for round one of the
Red Bull Pro Nationals at Landrake.
I like the track and after my win there last year I was keen to have some more of the same.
The new format means we have a race on Saturday too and that produced my best result of the season so far, finishing second.
I didn't ride my best but hung in there to the end.
It was nice to be back up at the front and a little confidence boost too.
Sunday was not the same unfortunately.
I got bad starts and rode rubbish to say the least. I was feeling a bit under the weather all day but that was no excuse really.
Events 22 put on a great show as always and I thought the new two-day schedule worked very well.
Round two at Weston-Super-Mare will be something new and exciting.
Usually it is the beach race we all associate Weston with, but I really think it will be great to have the Red Bull Pro Nats at this venue.
It was Ayrton's fourth birthday a couple of weekends ago.
He had a big party with all his mates and cousins, and to top it off he got a Cars ‘Lightning McQueen' cake.
The years fly by, he's off to school in September and my daughter Starlia will be off to nursery.
Right, now I'm going to give the grass its first cut of the year – how exciting is that!
Take care and good luck at the races.
