TUESDAY at the Scottish Six Days Trial got off to a sobering and sad start when the trial was halted following a fatal accident on the main A82 road north of Fort William.

Early starters were already well on their way to Laggan Locks when the accident happened shortly
before 10am, three miles from Spean Bridge.

The road was immediately closed by police and the incident caused even worse chaos at the roundabout just outside Fort William which was already causing major traffic problems.

Traffic was turned around – including trials competitors and they were corralled in the Ben Nevis Hotel car park while trial officials hurriedly plotted a new route north avoiding the A82.

This was carried out most efficiently by the SSDT organising team and took riders out the back roads past Witches Burn and back out onto the main road near Spean Bridge.

In total less than 45 minutes was lost although this is added to the time already lost due to the roundabout work.

In order to ensure there was no build-up of problems the organisers also decided to scrap the final four sections of the day, which were due to be all new sections on the Clunes route back into town.

As TMX was going to press on Tuesday evening the hot news in the paddock was that of the five riders who were clean on
Monday only Dougie Lampkin on the Gas Gas was confirmed to have remained clean through Tuesday's sections as well.

Jordi Pascuet on the Jotagas claimed to be either clean for the day or on one as he reckoned he had a debatable dab near a set of Ends cards.

Dan Clark was also claiming a clean ride for the day although at time of going to press this could not be confirmed – but there's no denying Clarky is well capable of such a ride.

But there's plenty to happen before Saturday's finale, so whatever you do don't miss next week's full report on the Six Days with Eric Kitchen's unrivalled pictures.
