It is just under a month away for the annual pilgrimage by competitors, their families and car loads of supporters to the Kent seaside resort of Margate, from all across the UK and Northern Europe.

The weekend of March 3/4 is the date set aside for the sixth ‘Monarch of Margate' Beach-cross race weekend which will cater for adult motocross and enduro bikes, adult and elite youth quads and mini-bikes (on a separate course).

The event attracts thousands of people to the Kent sea-front to witness the colourful, action-packed racing on the golden Margate sands.

Thanet District Council and local traders have welcomed the event back with open arms and will assist the organisers with the logistics etc.

"It's great to be back with the Margate Beach-cross,” commented event front-man, Tony Nash.

"This event is not just important to the town of Margate and the Thanet area but also to our sport.

"The months of planning all fall into place and it's great to be working with local traders and the council/ authorities who have been so supportive and accommodating towards the event.

Also working with Roy Barton from the MC Federation we are really looking forward to another cracking weekend.”

Track construction gets underway during the week leading up to the event with the help of plant and machinery from Ovenden's Plant Hire.

Several changes are being made to the layout and general construction of the dry sandy beach.

"It's not the biggest beach in the British Isles, I have to admit,” explained Tony Nash.

"But the riders enjoy it, the town loves it and we all have fun.”

Action gets underway with timed practice at 10am both days, backed up with market stalls, trade stands and the town of Margate, both old and new with its many shops, restaurants and cafe bars.

There are special functions planned for competitors on both the Friday and Saturday evenings.

The Margate weekend also kick-starts the 2012 ATE/ QRA MCF British BeachX Championship, so not only is it a stand-alone event, but it also includes rounds one and two of the series.

The next two rounds will be incorporated in the Joe's Beach Bar Gold Rush BeachX weekend at Ingoldmells, near Skegness over the weekend of June 23/24, with the final two rounds included at the Ramsgate BeachX weekend back at Ramsgate on October 20/21.
