Winrow to withdraw from national series
By Andy Foulkes on 5th Aug 11
Reigning British champion and the most successful UK quad racer of all-time, Paul Winrow, has announced hes quitting the national series and going into semi-retirement with almost immediate effect.
The 37-year-old star will have his final British championship outing at Langrish at the end of this month and skip the final two rounds after admitting: "My heart just isn't in it any more."
Winrow, who is campaigning privately entered Hondas this season, is sitting tenth in the series with just one podium from eight starts, which was a win in the opening race at Duns.
"I've been lucky. I've had a lot of success and been fortunate never to have a serious injury. But you can't keep racing at this level if you are not 100%.
"I will do the next round at Langrish. It's a GP track, so you know it is going to be good, but I won't be racing at Milton for the final two rounds. I will be there as a spectator.
"I'll keep one of my Hondas and do some club racing and one-off stuff. But the rest will be going up for sale."
Paul will be aiming to take a final win in the classic French Pont de Vaux 12-hour race later this month and has confirmed that his team-mates will be Stef Murphy and Jason Macbeth.
