THE gloves are on for this weekend of youth action at Low North Park where the final round of the Youth C and D championship will be resolved on Saturday, writes Barry Robinson. Then on Sunday the Youth A and B boys fire up for the penultimate event of the eight round series.
On Saturday Jack Price, already the Youth C champion can rest on his laurels. That leaves the way clear for Billy Bolt and Dan Peace to resolve who will win the battle to be series runner-up.
In the Medium-wheels Jack Peace has established a margin of nine points over Toby Martyn, but whether or not the gap is too great to bridge will not worry Toby.
In Youth D Small-wheel the two tiny tots, and they are, in stature, but not in ability, are seven-year-old Zac Collinson and Joe Faunthorpe. Both have ridden in more or less anything where there has been a class, and both are class winners, at any event. Zac goes into Saturday trailing Joe by five-points so with drop points and rivals, who knows?
Sunday brings Jack Sheppard and Richard Sadler right into the limelight. Sadler has not won a round this year and Sheppard has sailed through six events. Sadler has four second placings and a fourth at Merthyr after his wrist breaking session at the Richmond Mintex Trial. On paper Sheppard is home and dry, but if Sadler were to win the final two rounds and Sheppard misses the cut then maybe things could change.
Start time on both days is 10am and the venue boasts toilets and a classy snack bar. Don't forget, there's no fresh water on Low North Park, and the ants bite, big time!
