Youth rules at Moor Farm
By TMX Archives on 27th Feb 08

EBORACUM played the numbers game at Moor Farm on Sunday where Keith Ellis and his chain gang were again under fire from a massive 135-strong entry.
Of course anyone knowing the geography of Simon and Louise Gill's fine trials venue at Ouseburn, would know full well that the venue was close to the Boroughbridge ‘border crossing' between the Yorkshire Centre and East Yorks Centre.
It was inevitable that a few Tykes were going to Moor Farm, such as outright
Adult winner David Mawer and Youth star Jonathan Richardson, to ride the delights of the Plantation and the soggy Top Woods, plus the Camel Humps on the road-side leading to Ches Gill.
As it was, the three hot youths – Andy Chilton, Jon Richardson and Josh Sprintall – shaded all the Hard course adults, by a mile. Chilton had the breeze in his sails and got the Sherco round ten sections for an average of a mark a section.
The four-lap course featured Hard, Middle and Easy routes through all the sections and that probably accounted for the higher than average turnout for the annual event.
Mark Harrison turned on the heat in the Hard course Expert class but he just did not master the ninth way out in Top Wood where Sue Wainwright recorded marks by the dozen, but not from Messrs Chilton, Richardson or Sprintall. The former had it pegged with just a couple of dabs on the large angled rocks.
The soft ground started to drag onto the hardware after a couple of laps and the average scoreline was around the dozen mark. Mawer,Harrison and Kay Trophy winner, Adam Milner, were in the high rollers on this section. Harrison really lost the plot on the final hazard with a crippling 11 marks while Mawer signed off with a clean ride. Young Milner was right on the top two
riders but a dozen on the opener and another dozen in front of Sue Wainwright sunk his hopes of the overall.
Clooney, sorry Roger Williams, was out on a very tidy twin-shock Fantic. He cleaned the Middle course then admitted that he had got away with a very fleeting dab, not that it mattered as far as the results was concerned with Robin Harker and Rob McLoughlin going via a most cleans tie-break to sort out the runner-up. ‘Robin H' got the nod for
second place.
It was no shock that Matt Maynard posted a third best score on the Middle course to take Youth B from Isaac Gale and Bevan Blacker. Maynard is on the move up the results sheets, as his confidence breaks through
a quiet and thoughtful
persona.
The real tester on the Middle course was the fifth in Big Wood, where Martin Peirson logged many marks on the exit from the stream. The stream part was average, but the climb over wet rocks after the waterworks caught a lot of riders.
Tom Gill was on for a win on home ground but Rob Linklater foiled him with three dabs, a two in Big Wood and a dab on the ninth in Top Wood while Tom came out best – on most cleans – after a tie with Cub-mounted Duncan MacDonald.
For the Peace brothers, there was another brace of class victories. Dan did a big endo on the second section when he flew over the bars like a bird, which knocked him about a bit, but not enough to let Oliver Kendra in for the Youth C win. Jack cleaned the shorter Youth D course beating Sam Johnson and an out of class Simone Wallis.
