The Arenacross ACU British Championship hits the halfway point this weekend with a doubleheader inside Belfast’s SSE Arena on Friday January 31 and Saturday February 1. Scottish star Dean Wilson (Armor Vison St Blazey MX Honda) has already opened up a 13-point lead in the championship and a good weekend in Northern Ireland could put him a position to wrap up the championship a round early, on home soil in Aberdeen, just one week later. With that in mind it’s imperative that the other title contenders – Tommy Searle, Conrad Mewse and Jack Brunell – make the most of the two rounds ahead of them to reel Wilson back in.

As things stand, it’s inaugural Arenacross Champion Adam Chatfield who sits second in points having amassed 37 to Wilson’s maximum haul of 50. Chatfield is two points ahead of Searle with Matt Bayliss ranked fourth on 34.

Defending champion Jack Brunell has had a difficult start to his season on the Stark Varg and is ranked sixth in the series standings – a massive 22 behind Wilson. Conrad Mewse, meanwhile, is 28 behind the former AMA Motocross Champion having missed the season opener in Birmingham’s BP Pulse Arena due to a shoulder injury.

So as things stand, Wilson appears to be sitting pretty and having won both rounds of the championship held so far will be hopeful of extending that lead by at least another six points. If the Wembley round is anything to go off, Mewse is the man most likely to take wins in Belfast but in such a short series that round one no score is probably too much to recover from.

Joining the Pro lineup in Belfast is local lad Jason Meara who’ll be looking for hometown glory. Apico Honda’s Martin Barr is another Ulster star and wil be looking to make a Main Event for the first time this year after a difficult start to the season that is no indicator of his pace or skill.

Such is the level of competition in 2025 that only the first four riders in the series standings have qualified for both finals held so far which reiterates how close the racing is in this year’s championship.

Tickets for both Belfast rounds and the forthcoming Aberdeen (February 8) and Manchester (February 22) rounds the latter of which serves as the second AX World Tour qualifier ahead of the Abu Dhabi World Finals at Yas Island later in the year.
