Electric bikes were showcased at Saturdays round of the Monster Energy Arenacross Tour at Sheffield Arena.
Building on their relationship with Czech firm Kuberg, the MCF and series promoter e22 gave 65cc riders the chance to race the battery-powered bikes in the evening show after two qualifying heats earlier in the day.
Local rider Bradley Johnston got to grips with the machine early on and set the fastest time during qualification with a lap that was just two-and-a-half seconds slower than his time on a 65cc machine.
A crash in the final dropped Bradley back into the pack but a spirited ride saw him come through to finish the night in second place behind Tye Jones after passing Jak Taylor on the final lap.
"Having worked with Kuberg machines with our recent try-out sessions, putting around 800 youth riders on to off-road machines since last June, we have been keen to introduce them into racing,” said MCF General Manager Roy Barton.
"Having made good use of the opportunity to showcase the bikes at the arenacross we are now looking at ways, along with Kuberg, to put a youth series together throughout the season.”
Kuberg brought eight race bikes fitted with upgraded front and rear suspension to Sheffield.
