UK Arenacross: Glasgow is calling
By Team TMX on 6th Jan 16
After an outstanding opening round in Manchester, the 2016 Monster Energy Arenacross Tour powered by Ford Ranger heads directly north to Glasgows SSE Hydro Arena for rounds two and three this weekend (January 9/10).
Reigning champ Thomas Ramette carries the red plate into the second encounter after taking a dominant start-to-finish victory on his SR75 Molson Suzuki. The Frenchman successfully fended off attacks from Jack Brunell, Adam Chatfield, Cedric Soubeyras and Fabien Izoird in the 14-lapper overcoming backmarkers in the process.
"To start the new season out front is how we finished the 2015 series and is a great boost for the team,” enthuses Thomas. "I rode a tight race and was quite relaxed in the final. I got held up by a back-marker in the final laps and this slowed me down and allowed the other riders to bunch up so I just had to fight harder to get away. I think this victory means so much because of the quality of the other riders.”
Despite overcoming the opposition in the final, Ramette is actually tied on points at the head of the series with Soubeyras who bolstered his points for finishing second with victory in the head-to-head dashes. The French pair currently sit on a six-point buffer over SJR Kawasaki's Jack Brunell who rounded out the podium.
Pre-event favourite Josh Hansen hit trouble on the opening lap of the final – tangling with Buildbase Honda's Angelo Pellegrini – and had to battle back through the pack to an eventual eighth-placed finish. He'll no doubt be looking to improve on his current sixth-placed ranking in the series in Scotland this weekend.
