Enduro World Championship Steve Holcombe
Beta Factory Racing rider Steve Holcombe has been crowned 2018 FIM EnduroGP World Champion following an overall winning result on day one of the GP of Germany.
Entering the final event of the series with a clear advantage at the top of the overall EnduroGP standings, in topping the days results Steve secured his second consecutive EnduroGP title in style. In addition, he also wrapped up the Enduro 3 class title with one day of the 2018 championship remaining.
Needing to secure just a handful of points in order to lift the overall EnduroGP crown, Steve made a confident start to the event by finishing second in the Friday night super test. Rolling his good form over into the first of Saturdays three laps, Steve moved to the top of the event results where he remained throughout the day.
In winning the 2018 FIM EnduroGP World Championship and the 2018 FIM Enduro 3 World Championship, Steve has taken his tally of world titles to four, having previously claimed the 2017 FIM EnduroGP World Championship and the FIM Enduro 3 World Championship in 2016.
Steve Holcombe: What an amazing feeling. World champion! Its a massive relief to finally get the title as its been a real rollercoaster of a season. This title feels a lot different to the others different but still amazing. Being injured mid-season and having to catch up, its been a challenging year.
"But thanks to a lot of hard work from a number of good people we did it and have another world title to show for it. I knew I didnt have to win today, but I wanted to do my best to win. Thankfully, the super test went well on Friday night and I had a consistent opening lap today.
"The conditions were tricky, but I had a really good second motocross test. I was getting carried away with things a little and had to tell myself not to push so hard. I still managed to do enough to win, so everything worked out perfectly in the end. Securing another world title by winning the day is the best way to wrap things up.
