Tragic death at 2019 ISDE – RIP Pierluigi Mattioli

A statement from the FIM today announced the sad death of Enduro Vintage Trophy competitor Pierluigi Mattioli who suffered a fatal heart attack while participating yesterday.

The statement reads:

It is with much regret that we must inform you of the tragic death yesterday of Pierluigi Mattioli (rider #904) from Italy. He was participating in the 2019 FIM Enduro Vintage Trophy which forms part of the FIM International Six Days of Enduro, this year held in Portimao, Portugal.

Pierluigi Mattioli suffered a heart attack and was attended to immediately by the event medical team. Despite their best efforts to resuscitate him, he sadly passed away.

On behalf of the FIM Family, the FIM President, the Portuguese federation (FMP) and the local organiser AIA wish to extend their condolences to his family and friends, and the Italian federation (FMI) at this difficult time.
