Steve Holcombe has won the 2016 Enduro 3 World Championship by topping the E3 class on day one of the GP of France in Cahors.
Ending the day nine seconds ahead of Italian Manuel Monni, Steve also importantly placed ahead of his team-mate and closest championship challenger Johnny Aubert to secure his first international enduro title with one day of the championship still to go.
Third in class during the Friday night Super Test Steve made a strong start to day one by winning the first two special tests. Remaining upright and consistent throughout the day, in topping three of the closing four tests he did exactly what he needed to do to take victory and with it the Enduro 3 World Championship.
Steve Holcombe: "It feels incredible to think that I'm now a world champion. It's been an anxious time running up to this event, trying not to risk anything in other events to ensure I was healthy and ready to fight for this title.
Luckily I did what I set out to do and now I can relax a bit, have a few beers tonight and enjoy the moment. I felt good today but not exactly at the level I've been riding all year. It was hard to feel settled because at the back of my mind I knew that doing what I needed to do to secure the E3 title was the most important thing, I wasn't too worried about the overall result. Things were close with Manuel Monni today and Johnny Aubert had a great ride considering his injured shoulder. They kept me on my toes and luckily I did enough to become world champion.”
