Nine-time world champion Steve Holcombe is back – and ready to make an immediate impact as the 2026 FIM EnduroGP World Championship fires into life this weekend in Custonaci (April 10-12).

Now lining up for Sherco Factory Racing for the first time, the British star returns to world championship action following a year on the sidelines after an ACL injury ruled him out of the 2025 campaign. Fully recovered and back to full fitness, Holcombe arrives in Sicily with a point to prove.

The 2026 season marks a fresh chapter in his career. Not only is he debuting with a new team, but he also switches to the ultra-competitive Enduro3 class, where he’ll campaign the Sherco 300SE 2T. Early signs suggest he’s already up to speed, with podium finishes in the Italian Enduro Championship providing a solid platform heading into round one.

Custonaci’s dry, rocky terrain is expected to provide a stern early test, but it’s one Holcombe knows well. With a full week on-site to dial in bike setup and walk the special tests, preparation has been thorough – and expectations are high.

With Enduro3 widely regarded as one of the toughest classes in the paddock, Holcombe’s blend of experience and renewed motivation could prove decisive as he targets success not only in class but also in the overall EnduroGP standings.

The championship then heads to Spain and Finland in May before a run of European rounds, culminating in a home finale in Rhayader, Wales in August – one that could yet prove pivotal in Holcombe’s title ambitions.

“I’m really excited to get the 2026 season underway here in Italy,” Holcombe said ahead of the opener. “The tests are looking dry and rocky, which is typical for this area, and having raced here before, I know what to expect.

“There’s a lot that’s new for me this year with a different class, bike, and team, but everything has come together well during pre-season. I’ve had some solid results in Italy and feel like my preparation has built nicely heading into this weekend.

“It’s been almost exactly a year since I injured my knee, so to be back, fully fit, and ready to race again is a great feeling. Of course, there are always some nerves ahead of round one, but once I’m out there, it will feel like normal again.”
