Martin Lampkin is planning the best trial in the World
There is still ten months to go until the highly anticipated British round of the 2010 SPEA FIM Trial World Championship but that has not stopped the event's co-director, trials legend Martin Lampkin, throwing himself into preparations to ensure he delivers the biggest and most spectacular display of trials riding ever seen on British soil. The three-day event will take place over 25/26/27th June 2010 and will include two days of full blown World trials championship action, plus a packed opening day that will incorporate official practice, rider autograph sessions and a whole host of other unique and exclusive activities.
Former World champion Martin Lampkin is determined that the trials extravaganza, which is being supported by EventScotland, Highland and Island Enterprise and The Highland Council will set a new standard for the series when it lands in the Highlands next year. Martin is doing everything in his power to make it a success. "We're planning a great weekend of family entertainment in what is one of the most picturesque and stunning spots in the World.” Said Lampkin.
"With the help of our funding partners, who have all been really supportive, I'm confident this round of the SPEA FIM Trial World Championship will be one to remember for both the riders and fans,” he continued. "The sections are technical and challenging, so we're virtually guaranteed top class action, and the venue is on another level altogether when you compare it to somewhere like Hawkstone Park in 2007, simply because of the natural terrain and scenery – it offers so much more than just a traditional trial.”
It sounds great Martin, are you offering discounts to people that book tickets in advance?
"Yes, there are some fantastic advance ticket packages that offer massive savings, so it is worth visiting the website to check them out (www.ukworldtrial.com). To give you an example, a three-day family pass, which is only available in advance, is £120 cheaper than paying at the gate. An offer than cannot be missed? Likewise if you book an adult three-day pass in advance you save £25, or £20 for the two-day ticket, which is really good value. If you are quick, you can also buy VIP car parking passes, which will allow the public to enjoy the same access as the riders, officials and VIP guests. Those passes are limited, though, so like I said – be quick.”
What's included in the ticket price? I hear there is a cable car transportation system too?
"You're right, a cable car, or mountain gondola, will take spectators from the paddock and start/finish area at 300ft to the upper group of sections at 2150ft (91m to 1,221m) in just twelve minutes, and if you book in advance you get unlimited access to the gondolas, which can accommodate up to six people in their enclosed carriages. Trust me, it's a spectacular trip up the mountainside – kids especially will love it.”
So where exactly are the trial sections?
"Well, the gondola is located on the north face of Aonach Mor, the eighth highest mountain in Britain, and I can assure you, once you're up there it's one of the most spectacular and scenic settings for trials anywhere in the World – it's beautiful. What's more, there's a restaurant and bar, a gift shop, the mountain discovery centre and a children's play park at the venue, so there's lots to do for everyone. No one will be bored.”
