The ACU has relaxed its tough stance on the use of tear-offs in motocross.

A blanket ban was to have been introduced on January 1 but at a recent meeting of the ACU Motocross Committee it was decided that the use of tear-offs should be at the discretion of organisers for the next 12 months.
With many motocross circuits situated on grazing land the problem revolves around livestock ingesting discarded tear-offs and the obvious implications to the health of valuable animals.
‘It is a very fine balance of doing the right thing for our organisers and therefore riders compared to protecting our valued landowners, especially with regard to grazing land,' said a statement from the ACU.
‘The motocross committee are aware that new systems are being developed all of the time and we will monitor this ahead of the 2017 season. In the meantime we will support any club or promoter who feels they need to implement an event ban themselves.'
The motocross committee will monitor the situation closely throughout the 2016 season and recommends that organisers ban tear-offs on land used for grazing.
