Allingham snatches Foxhill glory

PAR Honda's Edward Allingham assumed a 13-point lead at the head of the Maxxis MXY2 Youth championship race at Foxhill on Sunday after snatching overall victory from on-form Lewis Abbott and newly KTM mounted James Hutchinson as his main championship rivals Josh Waterman and Scott Elderfield's challenges wilted in the heat.

Benefitting from crashes that restricted his rivals points tallys significantly, Allingham himself recovered a first lap fall in the opening moto to register 2-1 finishes and edge Abbot for the win on the better second race result and turn a six point championship deficit into a 13 point lead with just two motos left to run at Brampton later this month.
Allingham has set fastest time in qualifying just 0.6 of a second ahead of Elderfield but his hopes took a big hit when he ditched it just a couple of turns into the first race, allowing David Games and Elderfield to streak into the lead with Abbott in tow.
The lead pair diced neck and neck for the opening three laps but disaster struck on the fourth lap as the pair collided coming down one the steep valley hills and both took very heavy falls indeed.
Games was out cold and took no further part in the days proceedings while Elderfield did manage to remount, although clearly shaken to finish and unlucky 13th. He did not make the gate for moto two.
The crash left Abbott free and clear out front and the KTM runner controlled the race in style to cruise home to an unchallenged and much deserved win while Allingham, clearly the fastest man on track, fought his way back up to second with a couple of laps to go and never gave up his chase of Abbott, charging all the way to the flag.
There was a fierce battle raging for third also as Sam Davis, Nathan Rooks and James Hutchinson circulated fender to fender all moto, Davis coming strong on the very last lap to pass Rooks for the podium position with Hutchinson following him through also. Championship leader before the moto, Josh Waterman, could do not better than ninth.
Moto two was a straight up duel between Allingham and Abbott for the win and the overall but after grabbing a vital holeshot Allingham was always in control as the pair ran 1-2 all moto.
Abbott made all the effort he could to challenge but Allingham just had that bit of extra pace and was able to open up and maintain a gap of around five seconds all the way to the flag for an impressive win and the overall from Abbott while came under late pressure from Hutchinson.
Hutchinson was consistently quicker in the closing laps but Abbott rode smart and crossed the line just under a second clear to claim his first podium finish of the season.
Waterman claimed a fifth place finish this time behind Vytautas Bucas to limit his loses to Allingham to 13 points but the title is now the PAR Honda man's to lose and on his form on Sunday he doesn't look in any mood to do so.
