AMCA Teme up

Motocross

Following another all-action, incident packed round of the AMCA British Motocross Championship, it is getting a whole lot tighter at the top of the MX1 and MX2 Championship tables.

During the latest battle at Boraston, Shropshire and promoted by Teme Valley MXC, MX1 series leader Richard Cannings was restricted to a fourth overall finish after having his points haul hampered by a rear wheel puncture in moto two. Taking the win was the in-form Luke Dean, followed by defending champion Luke Mellows and Brad Turner.

In the points, Cannings now holds a 22-point advantage over Dean with Mellows a further 12 in arrears. Over in MX2, Josh Waterman still leads the way but must be nervously looking over his shoulder with Luke Burton just five points adrift and Lewis King in third.

At Boraston, hard charging Burton blasted to three moto wins ahead of Waterman and on current evidence this looks to be a battle that will rage all the way to the series conclusion at Norley in September.

Thanks to a lot of hard work by the organising Teme Valley MXC and some rain, conditions were absolutely perfect for the opening championship moto.

First up was the ultra-competitive MX2 class. Leading the moto one charge was Paul Neale but almost immediately he came under intense pressure from Lewis King and Luke Burton while, surprisingly, Josh Waterman was right down in tenth with it all to do.

The leading trio set a blistering pace and dropped the rest of the pack as Neale resisted the challenges before three quickly became four as Waterman stormed up the leader-board to join the party.

What an outstanding tussle this was and by lap six Burton moved into pole position. He was followed through two laps later when both Waterman and King also ousted Neale.

From that point on the frantic moto finally settled down as Burton scorched to victory, chased home by Waterman with King a strong third ahead of Neale and Cory McShane.

The day unfortunately ended painfully for Paul Neale in turn two of the second MX2 clash when he fell, sustaining a suspected broken hand.

Waterman led the pack this time round but immediately Burton and King were right on his tail with the impressive Day, Gardner, Brough and Chris Povey also in the mix.

In a hard fought battle for lead, Burton climbed all over Waterman until he finally made his move on lap six.
