Bai Bai Bou!

THE opening round of the 2010 SPEA FIM World Trials Championship, at Baiona in north west Spain, proved to be a real stunner, at least for the Championship class, with only five riders managing to keep their scores under 100. As expected, reigning champ Toni Bou romped away to a clear-cut victory, the Repsol Montesa rider finishing over 20 marks ahead of runner-up, Gas Gas number one Adam Raga, with Beta's Jeroni Fajardo making an all Catalan podium.
The trial comprised 15 sections, lapped twice, with all the hazards closely spaced on a steep, rocky peninsula. The big problem was the length of the sections which, with the section time for riders having been reduced to just one minute, instead of 90 seconds as last year, simply proving to be insufficient. Heavy rain falling on Friday and Saturday only made the sections more difficult as they got progressively more slippery and everyone was forced to try and rush them, making for mistakes.

On Saturday, the day before the SPEA FIM World Championship round in Baiona, Spain, the second round of the 2010 European Championship was staged when, despite rainfall and very slippery conditions, both the European (adults) and Junior courses proved just about perfect for the competition.
In the opening Italian round, home rider Matteo Grattarola was victorious and the Italian was still on form in Spain, taking second place to Spanish ace Alfredo Gomez, who didn't contest the opener. Jack Challoner, third in Italy, repeated the result in Spain with a steady ride in which he didn't do a lot wrong.
