Barcia may race at Grand Prix of Belgium

Not surprisingly after the sensational start to the MXGP season there is a lot of interest from riders around the world to compete in the FIM Motocross World Championships.
While names like Tim Gajser, Romain Febvre, Antonio Cairoli and Ben Townley go head to head every weekend, creating really competitive racing, new names in the series are always welcome.
Australian legend Chad Reed will be lining up at the British GP, and the GP of Lombardia. For Reed it's a return to the place that made him a name worldwide and eventually secured him his destiny in America.
Now Team USA rider Justin Barcia is sizing up the chance to race at the Grand Prix of Belgium, at the famous Lommel circuit. Barcia has mentioned on his twitter account that he wants to race in Lommel, and asked his fans to vote on his twitter page
Of course Barcia rode Lommel in 2012 at the MXoN and beat home riders such as Clement Desalle, Gautier Paulin, Ryan Dungey and Max Nagl. His 3-14 results helped Team USA finish on the podium.
We interviewed Barcia last year after the MXoN and he mentioned how much he would love to race in MXGP full-time.
"I would say that is why I like Europe more,” Barcia said. "I joke that I could move here one day. It is a lot more mellow and everyone works hard for what they have. I am very serious about coming, but nobody makes me an offer. I would come over and race. Who doesn't want to travel to different countries and see the world. I have never gotten an offer to race in MXGP, but I know racing Supercross and Motocross is really tough, and there is no break. Money isn't the problem to come and race in MXGP. I talk about every year, but I never get a phone call.”
We were lucky enough to see American legend Ryan Villopoto race against the best riders in the world last year, winning the Grand Prix in Thailand, and showing great speed until his unfortunate crash in Trentino, a crash that ended his season and eventually his career.
Of course in 2015 Thomas Covington won the Grand Prix of Mexico, a surprise to the whole, but still a moment for the American fans to grow even closer to the MXGP series.
With riders like Eli Tomac, Cooper Webb, Chad Reed, Justin Barcia and more already signed up to race the USGP in Charlotte and Glen Helen, and the new interest from riders like Reed and Barcia to race the biggest, most competitive series in the world, it only adds to what is already a drama filled series.
