THE Paris-Bercy Supercross, the longest-running, and still the main Supercross event in Europe, prepares for another exciting edition over the weekend of November 10/11/12 at the Bercy stadium in Paris.
For the last four years, Bercy has focused on the MX2 class with top Open class stars such as David Vuillemin, Mickael Pichon and Sebastien Tortelli accepting the challenge.
This year Bercy will invite six Americans, six Rest of the World and six French riders, who will be joined by another six riders straight from the Supercross Tour National race that opens every night.
On top of the individual race for King of Bercy honours and the biggest purse in MX2 racing, the results from the top three finishers of each Team will determine which nation will join four Team USA plates already screwed on the prestigious OCX-designed Trophy.
David Vuillemin, the 'King of the Kings of Bercy', Christophe Pourcel, the 2006 MX2 World Champion, and brother Sebastien will be members of Team France along with Benjamin Coisy and two others.
Team Rest of the World leader will be Yamaha DeCarli's Antonio Cairoli, Pourcel's top rival during the hard-fought 2006 MX2 GP season with British championship regular Neville Bradshaw starting.
Team USA's two-time King, Andrew Short, is unfortunately hurt, so Mike Alessi will become the most experienced top US rider in Bercy and is ready for the challenge. American Honda's newest recruit, Tommy Hahn, will fill in for Andrew Short.
If recovered from his injury, Jeff Alessi will be in and Josh Hansen, Mike Brown, Jason Lawrence, Zach Osbourne, to name a few, are on the promoter's short list to complete the US list.
For the first time Bercy will also feature an 85cc race with Sheffield Big-wheel 85cc winner Max Anstie invited to take part. The top ten in the current French 85cc SX championship will also participate for championship points.
Bercy, famous for its loud, colourful, fastuous Opening Ceremonies, is as much a show as it is a race. It once held the first European Freestyle Event, the Vans Big Air. This year's sessions will include top international freestylers straight from the biggest contests, the X-Games and X-Fighters, including Swiss ace Mat Rebeaud, Spaniard Dani Torres, Japan's Aigo Sato, the King of Whips, American's Ronnie Renner, and France's Remi Bizouard.
