Blaze' away for Ben
By TMX Archives on 20th Feb 08
ON Sunday, Little Silver Off-Road Promotions staged the final round of its Winter Motocross Championship at A&A Moto Parc. There was a hard frost overnight, but it wasn't long before the track was in prime condition with many different lines soon appearing and the racing was fast and furious.
In the opening Expert race, Wayne Shimell got the best start, but it was not so good for Dave Yelland who was late out of the gate and was near the back of the pack, as was Ben Griffith. However, they both were soon on the gas and flying through the field.
Griffith was absolutely flying on his 250F Suzuki and, by the end of lap six, he had climbed up into third spot and pressuring Alan Pearce. Both riders were quick to pass Shimell made he a mistake.
Griffith eventually storm-ed past Pearce and eased away to take the win with Pearce just holding off a late surge from David Yelland.
In race two, Griffith was best away from the gate but he went down in the first corner and was well back again.
This time Yelland had a better start and it wasn't long before he hit the front.
Yelland tried to make a break but young Jack Hawes stayed with him and they were neck-and-neck for several laps.
