Bolter's king of the Castle
By TMX Archives on 19th Mar 08
THERE was a terrific turn out of 340 adults for the fourth round (of five) in Track 'n' Trail's Husqvarna-sponsored Winter Series at Castle Park, near Dorchester. The riders grabbed a rare window of brilliant sunshine between a week of monsoon-like downpours and the onset of the worst storm to hit the south in 100 years.
This ten-mile course ran in the opposite direction to normal, though all the usual hazards were on display. Those that dared cross some sections of the course at the wrong place huffed and puffed until they pulled their bikes out of deep dark bilge.
With a large championship class of 30 riders, the Track 'n' Trail team had their work cut out preparing the course ensuring plenty of overtaking lines.
The front row for the main event included top liners Daryl Bolter, Si Wakley, Jon Hinman and Kevin Murray amongst others in the Enduro A-list.
When the flag dropped Murray was first away and, slowly but surely, the hunting pack started closing in. Bolter was just yards ahead of team-mate Wakley still recovering from injury as they entered the first wooded section in the lead.
The Husky duo clocked up lap after blistering lap with consistent times as Jon Hinman moved into third. It was no surprise that Daryl took the overall win and fastest lap with Si hot on his heels. Jon Hinman finished in third spot, all three on eight
laps.
The ever consistent Greg Pascoe took top Expert
honours and proved that consistency pays dividends as Daz Hughes and Brad Armstrong clocked up the two best lap times respectively. Despite having no clutch on the final lap, Pascoe nursed his bike home to claim victory with Paul Cowshall second and Hughes third.
Pete Archer took his usual place at the head of the Expert Over 40 pack. Ian Proudfoot dropped out with a first ever non-finish, so it was Gary McCoy and Dennis Harrison in second and third place.
Chris Blackmore moved to the front of Clubman 2T after the first lap and stayed there, though at the end of six laps he was closely followed by Kevin Rummings and Tony Primmer.
In Clubman 4T, Daniel Beaven pipped Martin Brown for victory with just over a seven-and-a-half minute lead with Chris Tite in third with all of the top three in this class on 6 laps.
No less than ten riders in Sportsman Over 40 all completed five laps each, with Gerhard Wallis claiming top honours.
In Sportsman 2T, Michal Bisaga posted the fastest lap and nailed the number one spot, while in Sportsman 4T, five riders all finished on
five laps but Noel James scooped up the 30 points for victory.
Nathan Dixon took the chequered flag last in the Trail group, where the top seven riders all completed four laps.
The weather held for the afternoon's Youth race which attracted an excellent turn-out of just short of a hundred riders. The course was shortened to five miles but this
still gave riders plenty of challenges!
The Junior 65cc class competitors had the greatest challenge, having to negotiate the heavily rutted course on their tiny bikes. Dylan Baynton rode in his unique way to take first in class. Luke Rudd put in an excellent
performance to take second. Oliver Evans put in his fastest lap en route to third overall.
With six laps, Calum Voisey clocked up his third win from four rounds in Small-wheel 85cc. The battle for second was intense. Ryan Stonier and Lewis Dowle scrapped throughout and in the end, it went Ryan's way by just ten seconds.
George Baylis was a clear winner of Big-wheel 85cc. He put in the second fastest lap of the race and clocked up seven laps to take the class win and third overall.
The Youth 125cc class had become a two-way battle between Scott Clifford and Marcus Alba, but up stepped a third contender in Joe Dyke. Previously a consistent finisher, Joe dug in and up to lap three was hot on the heels of leader Scott Clifford. Joe seemed to tire over the next three laps but still managed to hold Marcus at bay for second spot.
