Bou legs it!

TONI Bou overcame injuries to his leg from a nasty crash on Saturday to win both days of a very hot, dry, dusty and difficult Spanish round of the 2012 World Championship.

 

The Repsol Montesa ace has now won seven on the trot following his opening day defeat at the hands of Adam Raga in France.
 
But as reigning champ Bou pulled inexorably further and further ahead in the series it was all going on behind him, as the chasing pack battled over the minor placings – both in the event and the championship. Raga, Fajardo and Cabestany all had their moments over the weekend and remain locked together in the fight to be vice-champion.
 
The sharp, jagged rocks at Penarroya-Pueblonuevo – an old mining town near Cordoba – should have provided grip.
 
But the powdery dust that dragged on to them made conditions surprisingly slippery and there was a high number of crashes and resultant injuries. Bou damaged his left leg while team-mate Takahisa Fujinami lost a fingernail as he crushed his left finger, but carried on to fifth place while obviously in some pain.
 
Michael Brown was also in the wars, hurting his back as he dropped off a section, which hampered his riding for the rest of the weekend. 
 
Mr Consistency Albert Cabestany, on the Sherco, kept Bou on his toes on the opening day. 
 
He actually held the lead by one mark following the opening lap of 14 sections, after the final man-made hazard was scrubbed after a large log became loose. Cabestany's laps of 11 and 12 were
