Brew' time at Trewyn

WOR Events unleashed yet another brand new venue for the opening round of their Winter Hare & Hounds Series. Trewyn, Nr Corwen in North Wales really was an old school classic Hare & Hounds venue, giving riders a five-mile lap.
The course consisted of a big sweeping track, quite fast and technical with lots of off cambers. The lower flat field sections were a bit sticky and slippy in places in complete contrast to the other half of the course, which went up into the surrounding hills, revealing perfect ground conditions, although there were a few muddy ditches running across it.
WOR decided to revert to its tried and tested two-race formula, back by rider demand, with a two hour morning race for the B Level riders and a two and a half hour afternoon race for the A Level riders.
Thick fog at the start of the day gave the organisers cause for concern but they decided to wait it out and were rewarded as the sun shone through for the slightly delayed morning race.
At 10.30 am, a strong field took to the starting line. Stephen Thornton led right from the start and took the overall win in the two-hour morning race and the class win in the Veteran B, notching up 11 laps. Pat Kean followed him home four minutes later and then Julian Rylance a further four minutes adrift, both on 11 laps.
In the Sportsman B class, Stephen Brooks took the honours on ten laps with Tim Thornton and Dylan Owen rounding out the top three, just a minute separating the pair.
Ryan Ireland did well in the Youth Class to post 11 laps, a lap up on second place Thomas Cadwallader, who was two laps up on third place Jack Cadwallader.
Barry Thomas was the top Novice rider with eight laps under his belt at the two-hour mark. Mark Beeston came in minute later a lap down on Thomas with Mike Elwell in third.
A good entry in the Ladies class saw some tough competition. Rhian George took the class win by six minutes from Fionn Griffiths, both ladies posting nine laps. Leah May Jones completed the podium line-up on eight laps.
The afternoon race got underway at 1pm and it was Lincoln Brewster who led the pack but he had stiff competition from Owain Humphreys who took the lead on a couple of occasions and pushed Brewster all the way to the finish flag, just two minutes separating them. Humphreys has been competing in the British Enduro Championships and has come on leaps and bounds, one to watch! Steve Hughes came in third, all three riders on 16 laps. Roland Morris made a welcome return to H&H on a new Gas Gas 250 and used the race as training to get his fitness level up to race spec.
Tom Owen and Shaun Turner were neck and neck in the Expert B class, with Owen the eventual victor just a minute ahead of Turner, both on 16 laps. Jack Evans took the final spot and would have won but he had to stop and have a new clutch lever fitted, in which time he slipped to third place.
The Clubman A class saw David Dudley take a resounding victory, a lap up on second place Dan Edwards who was closely followed by Dan Critchlow.
Euros Jones was top Clubman B rider, leaving Sam Alderman and Ieuan Brookes to battle for second and third place, Alderman just pipping Brookes to second by a mere three seconds.
Ian Barnett took the Veteran A class win but was hounded by Chris Wagastaff who came in just a minute behind him. Ian Jones took third, all three riders on 15 laps.
Some close racing in the Sportsman A class saw just seconds separate the top two riders, with Gwion Prys just edging out Aled Evans for the win. Henry Partridge took third, four minutes adrift of the top two.
