Brit special

Bringing the 2013 Enduro World Championship to a dramatic close, a wet and wild GP of France provided the final sting in the tail to what had already been an exciting season.
But despite the torrential rain and flash floods, Italy's Alex Salvini (Honda) maintained his composure to secure the Enduro 2 World Championship while Brits Danny McCanney and Jane Daniels topped their respective podiums.
Starting out dry and warm, day one of competition in St Flour quickly took a turn for the worse as heavy rain made parts of the course impassable.
With competitors stuck on the treacherous hillside extreme test and bogged down in the long forestry based enduro test, organisers were forced to call a premature end to the day. Eventually after much confusion, a result was declared.
But with much of the terrain unridable, officials were forced to alter the schedule for day two. Cutting the lap and using just the cross test - that would be ridden four times - the event was saved.
In the Enduro 1 class, much of the focus centred on Antoine Meo's bid to win the race on a KTM 125 EXC.
Switching to the two-stroke for the final round of the season, he wanted to prove that the 125 was still competitive at EWC level. However, with stiff opposition he faced a tough task.
Setting the pace early on Sherco's Jeremy Tarroux controlled the race lead. But as the rain fell, the Frenchman faded and opened the way for Meo to win. Behind Meo, Eero Remes (TM) and Jeremy Joly (Honda) completed the podium. On a shortened day two, Tarroux made no mistake and beat Remes by just two tenths of a second for the victory while Marc Bourgeois (Yamaha) edged out Meo by five tenths of a second for third. Making his debut appearance in the EWC, Hard Enduro expert Jonny Walker (KTM) faired well in the tough conditions. Ending day one in ninth, he placed tenth on day two.
"It's been a great experience stepping into the EWC this weekend,” confirmed Walker.
"Even though the event was a bit chaotic due to the rain I've really enjoyed it and would like to try and do a few more. I was hoping to finish inside the top ten and I managed to do that both days – ninth on day one and then tenth on day two.”
In the highly competitive Enduro 2 category, Salvini entered St Flour as favourite for the title.
Not failing to disappoint, the Italian clinched the championship at the end of day one, beating Ivan Cervantes (KTM) and Antoine Basset (Yamaha).
Repeating his winning form on day two, Salvini capped off his incredible season with another win as Johnny Aubert (KTM) and Pela Renet (Husaberg) followed him home for second and third.
"It's unbelievable to be champion,” told Salvini at the end of day one. "My focus was on winning the title but to do it by also winning the race is great.
