Motocross

AFTER having had British riders on the podium in the opening two rounds of the IMBA MX2 European Championship and currently holding down four out of the top five places in the series standings, hopes of a home success at Branston on Sunday were naturally very high. Unfortunately though, top German rider, Andre Adrian, was a party pooper by taking the overall win although Brits Lee Dunham and Phil Mercer did both record a moto win each and the AMCA lads on duty still produced another impressive, strong performance. Current IMBA series leader, Dunham, eventually took second spot on the podium, joined by fast-starting Matt Porter in third while Sean Frayne was fourth, Phil Mercer fifth, Scott Mathia sixth and James Lane 11th. Despite Adrian's win, the British grip at the top of the IMBA championship table was strengthened as Dunham, Mercer, Porter and Frayne now fill the leading four positions!Supporting the IMBA action was round five of the AMCA MX1 series with Brad O'Leary, Ben Saunders recovering from a massive first moto off, and David Campbell taking the wins, a result which sees O'Leary again increasing his Championship lead to 19-points.

IMBA MX2

PERSISTENT rain preceding the event had initially made ground conditions very sticky at Branston but with the sun then thankfully made an appearance on race day, the going was eventually very good by the time the gate had dropped to signal the start of IMBA race one.

And, what a glorious start to proceedings it was, as the Brits filled all top six places with Porter leading the way ahead of Dunham, Lane, Frayne, Mercer and Mathia.

Although Lane crashed on lap two and dropped back to 12th, hopes of a British whitewash still remained especially as main threat Adrian was surprisingly down in ninth.

As the moto progressed, a very fast Dunham took over leadership on lap four before Frayne and Mercer further relegated Porter down the leaderboard. In a dramatic conclusion though, Mercer's Kawasaki seized with just one lap remaining and just seconds after he had moved up into the runners-up spot by passing Frayne. So at the flag, Dunham was a comfortable victor with Frayne a great second, Porter third and Adrian recovering back strongly for fourth.

AMCA MX1

AFTER a very sticky qualifying session, reigning AMCA MX1 champion David Campbell led the moto one charge of the latest episode in the battle for home title glory at Branston ahead of Charlie Hollis, Jamie Powell, Tim Truman, Alan Pearce, Steven Bailey and Brad O'Leary, while champion wannabe's Ben Saunders and Brad Turner held tenth and 20th places respectively. At the front, Campbell was then relieved of his advantage by first Hollis and a rapidly charging Saunders before a very dramatic moment.

On lap seven and when looking set to earn another vital victory, Saunders encountered a massive off, suffering rope burns to his arm and chest, but remounted to earn an eventual 22nd spot.

Critically, up at the front, O'Leary had stylishly paced his race to perfection, going onto record a great win with a brave Hollis, despite feeling decidedly unwell, taking a great second spot.

Campbell took third, Truman fourth, James Russell fifth, Powell sixth and Danny Blakeley on his two-stroke Yamaha an impressive seventth.

For title contender Turner though, this moto proved absolutely disasterous, falling twice and eventually retiring from the meeting feeling rather battered and bruised.

Once again, the experienced Campbell made a great start to lead moto two, and on this occasion he headed the pack all the way until just two laps from home before being passed by Saunders. After his massive off in the opening clash, Saunders displayed great determination and bravery to move from an early seventh up into pole position. Also moving up the leaderbaord in style were O'Leary and Rich Meakin, getting up to third and seventh places respectively.
