British Motocross Championship
REVO Husqvarna UKs MX2 riders Martin Barr and Mel Pocock tied on points at round two of the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship at Canada Heights on Sunday with Martin getting the decision for second on a tie-break.
Heres one for all you MX trivia fans out there last season the pair tied on points at the first three rounds of the Maxxis.
Martin may still be recovering from an injured throttle hand but the hard-as-nails rider from Northern Ireland gritted his teeth and, overcoming a bad start in the opening moto, ran 3-2 on the day. Mel was his usual rock-solid self and carded 2-3 which moves him up to second in the championship.
Heres another one for all you MX trivia fans out there it was Mels fifth consecutive top-flight podium finish this year.
My hand still isnt 100 per cent and Im struggling a little but Im just trying to forget about it and get on with the job, said Martin. All-in-all it wasnt such a bad day its frustrating to come away with second overall but its my first podium of the season so its a step in the right direction.
Mel was happy to come away from his local track holding second in the championship.
The bikes are working faultlessly and thats my fifth podium this season and Ive moved up to second in the championship, he said. It was a good weekend and I had my daughter up on the podium with me which was nice.
There were also big positives to be drawn from Canada Heights for Dylan Woodcock who has been struggling to fulfil his potential so far this season. The 18-year-old may have stacked it three corners from the end of race one but he was holding down ninth at the time by far his best ride of the year.
Im pleased for Martin he needed that confidence-building performance after having so much bad luck since Culham, said team boss Mark Yates. Mel had two solid rides and was a lot closer to Conrad Mewse than he was at Culham and Martin also gave Conrad all sorts of problems in the second race.
Dylan had an excellent first race and was holding down ninth until three corners from the end when he threw it on the floor and hurt himself which cost him a solid top 10. He tried to go out in the second moto but was forced to pull in but it was a very positive performance.
