Maxxis Series Manager stands by call to cancel Foxhill round

British Motocross Championship
The penultimate round of the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship supported by Pro Clean at Foxhill was cancelled two days before it was due to be held after heavy rain was forecast for the iconic Wiltshire venue.
While the decision made by the organising Langrish club in conjunction with venue leaseholder Paul Cook hasnt met with universal agreement, Series Manager Stuart Drummond is standing by the call.
It rained and rained all day Saturday, then continued all night and until mid-Sunday morning, he said. It did shift slightly but Foxhill is clay and notoriously difficult and dangerous in the wet so we couldnt ignore the safety aspect and had to make a tough judgement call.
I feel it was the right decision made by the Langrish club and Paul Cook. It wasnt easy financially its a blow to us and with the track having undergone a major revamp we were looking forward to the event so its a huge disappointment to everyone concerned.
In the past Foxhill has suffered severely from bad weather with the 1998 Motocross of Nations and the 2000 GP triple-header being notorious examples. The MXoN was hit particularly hard with the worlds best riders struggling to make it to the top of one of the circuits steepest hills and the 2000 GP was, in fact, cancelled on the Sunday morning after the opening days action.
Of course, its not just the circuit that suffers. The infrastructure is also badly hit and in the past tractors have been needed to tow cars and race transporters out of the venue.
The 2018 Maxxis series has already suffered from bad weather with the opening round at Lyng postponed, Culham also badly affected and the programme for the Duns round at the end of August cut short because of strong wind, low cloud and driving rain.
With no provision to rerun the Foxhill round, the 2018 championship will now conclude at Lyng on the reserve date of October 14.
