British Motocross Championship Stuart Edmonds
Apico Husqvarna riders Stuart Edmonds and Matt Burrows had a tough day at the office at Culham on Sunday at the opening round of the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship.
After struggling to get a decent lap in during qualification they had bad gate picks but both started the first MX1 race well with Stuart inside the top 10 after the opening lap and Matt just a few places further back.
Matt crashed out on lap three and Stuart slipped down the order and out of the points with a series of falls but the Dubliner fought back with 11th in race two and Matt picked up three points with an 18th-placed finish.
Coming into today I hadnt done many races on the bike and in the first moto I spent more time on the ground than racing, said Stuart. I came into the races a bit too aggressive today and was chasing the set-up as well.
We got the set-up better for the second race and I felt more comfortable. I know that I can get into the top 10 and be mixing up there so I have a few things to work on before the next round.
Matt admitted that he struggled in the testing conditions.
Today was a tough day and hasnt ended how I wanted it too, he said. I felt good in qualifying but struggled to get a clear run and then in the first race I had a heavy crash early on and that meant I was very sore for the second race and it was just survival to get some points.
Team manager Sean Burrows was keen to look at the positives.
Today hasnt been the greatest day for either Matt or Stuart, he said. In the first race they both had a crashes and bad luck then in the second race Stuart rode solid for 11th and showed that he can easily be inside the top 10.
Matt recovered from the crash in race one to get some points. Now we look forward to getting to the second round and progressing.
